VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Our school community flourishes in part due to the generous donations of time and talent from our parent (and grandparent!) volunteers. There are many fundraising and program activities throughout the year that need parent volunteers in order to be successful. Please complete the volunteer interest form here to let us know how you would like to help this year, or contact our Volunteer Coordinator at [email protected]

 

— Classroom PTA Room Representative: Collaborate with your child’s classroom teacher to act as a parent contact and liaison for the classroom, recruit parent volunteers for classroom activities, help promote PTA & other activities on campus, and send weekly school/classroom updates to the classroom community.

— Classroom Volunteer: You may work with students on various projects, take work home to prepare for activities or assignments, chaperone a field trip, or lead gardening projects. Talk to your child’s teacher or ask your Room Representative about volunteering in the classroom. A negative TB test is required for all classroom volunteers. Please return forms to the office prior to your first volunteer day. In addition, LAUSD has a new requirement for parents who plan to volunteer more than 16 hrs./wk.  Please complete their form: www.volunteerapp.lausd.net

— School Volunteer: Help out in the office, collate and organize materials, or supervise students during recess, lunch, and after school. Talk to Yoli or Natalie in the front office for more information.

— Direct Appeal Committee:  TBD

— Reading Buddies:  Pair up each week with a student needing additional one-on-one practice in reading. Necessary skills include a love for reading and consistent weekly availability (1 hr/wk minimum). This program is designed to empower kids to feel confident in their abilities to read and allows parents the opportunity to make an impact in the lives of individual students.  For more information contact [email protected]

— Safety Valet: Help our students at morning drop-off by ensuring their safe exit from vehicles and keeping traffic moving smoothly. Volunteer from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. daily, weekly or on a rotating basis.  Please  contact Leslie Wise at [email protected] to sign up.

— Danforth Gate Supervision: Help make morning drop-offs easier by having this gate open. Email [email protected] if you are interested in supervising the gate one or more mornings a week, 7:40-8:15am.

— Lost & Found: Keep the lost & found cabinet organized and conduct periodic clean-outs. Help families save money by reuniting lost sweaters/jackets/lunchboxes/water bottles with the kids.

— Snack Shack: Work together with your child after school! Shifts are one+ days/week for 3 months, from 2:30-3:15pm.

— Merchandise Committee: Organize, order, inventory and sell MWE merchandise throughout the year.

— PTA Reflections Art Program Committee: Assist in facilitating and curating the PTA’s National Reflections Art Program at our school. For more information, visit Reflections Art Program.

— Arts Collective Afterschool (ACAS): Have fun with our makers afterschool! Click here to read about the program.

— Graphic Design: PTA is always in need of graphic designers to create materials(flyers, etc) to publicize school events.

— Thursday Teacher Lunches: One or more Thursday per month, collect teacher’s take-out orders and money and then pick it up and deliver to school by lunch time.

— Festival of Fun: This is an event in December for the whole family that coincides with the annual Book Fair, PTA Reflections Program Art Exhibition, and After School Programs Holiday Showcase. Come for the shopping, crafts, food, cookie decorating and cocoa, and then stay to watch the MWE student demonstrations plus performances of original dance choreography, music, short films, and poetry readings.

— Audio/Visual Assistance: Set-up and run the school’s audio visual system for Monday morning assemblies and other school events.

— Event Committees: Mount Washington Made, Pancake Breakfast, Carnival of the Howling Wolves, Book Fair, & Festival of Fun(winter event surrounding Reflections exhibition, book fair, & afterschool arts programs performance night) all have committees that need help planning and coordinating the events. Additionally, closer to each event, sign-ups will go out in the eHowl and through classroom room reps to solicit specific volunteer slots for each event.

— Holiday Toy/Book & Other Donations Drives: Assist in publicizing, coordinating, collecting and delivering for our donations drives to help our neighbors.

— Pre-Talent Show Community Dinner: On the night of MWE’s Annual Talent Show in May, PTA puts on a casual family style dinner for our community to enjoy before heading into the MPR to watch our kids perform.

— Photographers: Would you like to be one of the class photographers for your child’s room and document awesome memories for the kids? We need photographers for school events, individual classes, Yearbook, and more. Please contact the PTA Historian at [email protected] if you are interested in being a MWE parent photographer.

— After-School Programs Class Instructor: We are always looking for new after-school classes to offer our students. If you have a special talent you could teach our kids and would like to run an after-school class, please let us know. Contact our PTA Programs Coordinator at [email protected].
